Windcrest UMC is located at the corner of Walzem Road and Midcrown Drive in Windcrest, on the Northeast side of San Antonio, Texas.
Sanctuary and Gathering Place
Our main Sanctuary can be accessed from the parking lot entrance off Walzem Road or Midcrown Drive. Enter Gathering Place through the wooden doors under the portico to find families and friends gathering before worship. This building with the tallest roof peak and unique circular architecture is where you will find coffee and a special welcome.
You may also enter the Sanctuary from the glass doors from the special visitor parking off Midcrown Drive. Please note these doors lead directly into the Sanctuary. At the present time we discourage the use of the doors nearest the stained glass window. You will be more comfortable entering through our Gathering Place wooden doors just under the portico.
If you are attending our church for a special event such as a baptism, wedding or funeral, we invite you to park in Visitor Parking closest to the church doors in either of the two main parking lots.
The Fellowship Hall in the Hilliard Building is located from the back parking lot off Midcrown Drive. The main Church Office and staff offices are also located here. Please enter the back parking lot off Midcrown Drive. The main doors are just beyond the mailbox. Also houses student ministries.
The Jones Building houses our children's classrooms. All year, Windcrest Day School and Child Development Center occupies these classrooms. On Sundays, they become Sunday School classrooms where our children's classes meet and where our nursery care can be found. These rooms are numbered 201-209.
The Music Ministry rehearsal rooms are also located off the corridor between the Sanctuary and Jones Building. You may park in the parking lot off Walzem Road for closest access.
Located near the back parking lot and across from the playground, this is a classroom building for most adult classes and studies. Rooms 301-305 are downstairs; rooms 306-310 are upstairs.
Boy Scout Troop 157 and Cub Scout Pack 157 meet in the Scout Hut. Located at the back of the Midcrown parking lot, you will find scout activity most evenings of the week.
We have large parking lots off Walzem Road and Midcrown Drive around the original campus buildings. There is also ample parking in the Red Tree Square area both in front, at the side, and at the back. There is a convenient drive-through area between our campus property lines.
Our Bridge to the Future
When Rev. Greg Hackett came to Windcrest UMC in 2000, the church entered into a "Master Plan" study to examine the church plant and to ascertain where growth could happen and how to provide space for that growth. As a result of the Master Plan, in 2005 Red Tree I was purchased - 2.2 acres due west of the church property, at a cost of $1.46 million. The church ran a capital campaign, better known as Our Bridge to the Future, and pledges amounting to $1.2 million were committed. The debt, originally at $1.46 million, was paid off after four years! We commend our church for their faithful giving to the Capital Campaign.
As leased space became available, the church occupied it with usable space in Community Hall (a Fellowship Hall that seats 130 for dining), Susanna Wesley Center (United Methodist Women and Mission events, as well as Sunday School), Youth Space (our youth ministry) and the Wesley Nurse Office. This increased space allowed programmatic ministries to flourish.
We took a "step in faith" and purchased the remainder of the Red Tree space (Red Tree II) in 2007.
However, due to the inability to lease the larger spaces and lack of funding to address major repairs, the entire Red Tree property was sold in July of 2014.
FORWARD: FAITH FOR THE FUTURE
We have "Come Home" to the main campus -- ready to take our next "steps in faith"! "Come Grow" with us!!
