January Mission Focus

The mission of Kairos Prison Ministry is to bring Christ's love and forgiveness to all incarcerated individuals, their families and those who work with them, and to assist in the transition of becoming a productive citizen. For more information visit http://thebamfordgroup.com/kairos.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a ministry started at Windcrest UMC for the people who came to our church almost every day looking for help. We provide emergency assistance to individuals and their families in our community in the form of prayer, food, a Wesley nurse, and the listening ear who is part of the Body of Christ. For more information contact the church office. Every 2nd Thursday (beginning at 8:00 am) of the month WUMC Neighbors Helping Neighbors provides worship, breakfast, assistance with other needs and distributes food voucher for the following Thursday. Every 3rd Thursday (beginning at 8:30 am) the vouchers are redeemed for food from the San Antonio Food Bank. Click below to view the NHN video created by Shelby Hood.

Join us at Sager Brown in April 22-27, 2018:
Deadline to sign up is January 7, 2018!

Sager Brown Depot is smack dab in the middle of Cajun Country in Baldwin, LA. It is one of two locations UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) has to collect, inspect, assemble and ship relief supplies around the world whenever a need arises.  We have reserved 20 spots for our April Mission Trip but we need to let them know by January how many will actually be attending. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided on the work days. Each work team is assigned a couple of meals to clean-up after. Accommodations include dormitory style rooms of two, four or eight. There is also RV hookup or private apartments (additional fee.) The grounds of the Depot are beautiful with trees and swings along Bayou Teche for you to enjoy the scenery. One afternoon during the week our team will take an afternoon off to visit local attractions and eat out for dinner. Your time at the Depot is very rewarding. You work with people from other teams and other parts of the country and you know what you are doing will affect and make a difference in the lives of someone across the country and possibly around the world.  You may choose to volunteer in the community- you will have the opportunity to sign up for various volunteer opportunities. Room, board and food services are covered, but there will be a couple of meals on our own. The total cost for the trip not including the meals during travel and the dinner out one night while sightseeing is $230. We will be having a breakfast fundraiser and a lunch fundraiser to cover some of the cost. We ask that missionaries pay a minimum of $110 and we hope to fundraise to cover the remaining balance.

I love going to Sager Brown! I like that I can be Jesus’ Hand and Feet even though I don’t have any special skills- I don’t sew and I can’t build things. But I made a difference….and it was FUN! Please consider joining us April 22-27, 2018! See me to sign up!
