You can begin ordering your wreaths now. Each wreath is $15, and checks must be made payable to Wreaths Across America.  You can donate wreaths to be placed on graves at Ft Sam Houston, OR you can order wreaths to be placed on specific graves there.  Please provide as much information as possible for grave specific, and write plainly. The folks at Wreaths Across America are not responsible for errors.

Let's hope every grave at Ft Sam will receive a wreath. Please tell your family and friends and share the order forms! The very last day to order is November 20, 2017. Just give your order form and check to an usher, the church office, or to Mary Hatch.

October Mission Focus

Mercy Ships

Mercy Ships, is a global charity that has operated hospital ships in developed and developing nations since 1978 impacting over 2.6 million people in 55 countries. This ministry brings hope and healing to the forgotten poor by mobilizing people and resources worldwide, and serving all people without regard for race, gender, or religion. Mercy Ships follows the 2000-year-old model of Jesus, bringing hope and healing to the world's forgotten poor and seeks to become the face of love in action, bringing hope and healing to the poor.

In addition to short term and long term volunteer opportunities, there are quite a
number of ways we can show our support for this ministry whether through cash
donations (last year our Church was able to send Mercy Ships $ 11,000.00 for health professional training and renovations to rehab clinics), providing supply kits, or  ”adopting” a patient, a crew member (we supported a Dentist in 2015) or an Academy Student. As in prior years, Pumpkin Olympics is the closing event for this Mission Focus.

If you would like to learn more about this ministry, simply go to their web site www.mercyships.org or give Tony Neve a call at 471-8583. If you would like to support this ministry financially, make your check out to WUMC and include “Mercy Ships” on the memo line. Cash donations can be placed in an envelope and also should be marked “Mercy Ships.”

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a ministry started at Windcrest UMC for the people who came to our church almost every day looking for help. We provide emergency assistance to individuals and their families in our community in the form of prayer, food, a Wesley nurse, and the listening ear who is part of the Body of Christ. For more information contact the church office. Every 2nd Thursday (beginning at 8:00 am) of the month WUMC Neighbors Helping Neighbors provides worship, breakfast, assistance with other needs and distributes food voucher for the following Thursday. Every 3rd Thursday (beginning at 8:30 am) the vouchers are redeemed for food from the San Antonio Food Bank. Click below to view the NHN video created by Shelby Hood.
